Local support helps progress solar project
A potential issue with the Mansafe roof safety system at the Battle of Britain Memorial has been resolved thanks to the expertise and generosity of a local specialist contractor, allowing vital solar panel work to progress without delay or additional cost to the Trust. The issue, identified during preparations for the Memorial’s planned work around their existing solar panel PV project, meant the existing Mansafe system could not initially be certified under updated regulat

Flypast cancelled
Flypast update for 7 April We’ve been informed that due to route changes and fuel considerations, the planned Spitfire flypast will no longer include the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne. We know this may be disappointing for visitors and we'll share any updates if the situation changes. The Memorial will remain open as usual on 7 April, with the shop, Cockpit Café and Scramble Experience all operating. You can find out more about the planned flypasts on the Spitf

Remembering Paul Oram
Yesterday, the Trust said farewell to Paul Oram at his funeral at the Hawkinge Crematorium, to remember his many years of dedication as both a volunteer and staff member. Paul first joined the Trust at the end of 2013 as a volunteer, before becoming a member of staff in April 2015 following the opening of The Wing. Memorial Manager Jules Gomez, who attended the funeral on behalf of the Trust, reflected on Paul’s exceptional character. Jules recalled, “When I first interviewed

Moving tribute to Belgian aircrew
Belgian aircrew who fought in the Battle of Britain were remembered in a moving service at the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall on Tuesday 17 November. The poignant but colourful ceremony was organised by the UK branch of the Royal Federation of Belgian Veterans and included a number of pieces of music including Abide with me played by Pipe Major Deiderik De Jaeger, along with a minute’s silence, wreath laying and Last Post. A poignant backdrop
The National Memorial to the Few found itself centre stage when a high-end clothing company used it as the backdrop for a short film focused on the life of an RAF pilot. Stanley Biggs Clothiers is a small British heritage clothing brand that draws heavily on RAF and wartime history in both its design and storytelling, and used the Memorial to add the poignancy it was looking for in its latest promotional film. With the working title of “The Jumper”, the film follows the life

They also enjoyed a visit to The Scramble Experience. Blue Badge Tourist Guide Tanya Firth said the membe

We will remember them
The Trust's annual service of commemoration to mark Remembrance Day was again well attended, with volunteers and Trustees joined by visitors and by villagers from Capel-le-Ferne. The Trust always holds a service on 11 November, rather than the closest Sunday, in honour not just of the Few who served in the summer and early autumn of 1940 but of all those who sacrificed so much in two world wars and in more recent conflicts. Wreaths were laid at the base of the National Memori

Join us on Remembrance Day
The Trust will again be holding its annual Service of Remembrance at 11 am on Tuesday 11 November, remembering the sacrifices made by those lost in past conflicts. This is a short but poignant service, followed by wreath laying, and is usually well attended by volunteers, visitors and local people from Capel-le-Ferne and nearby. Please join us, and please arrive ten minutes or so before the 11am start.
