Our season of Sunday afternoon talks at The Wing ended on a high note when Air Commodore Rick Peacock-Edwards CBE AFC told the remarkable story of his father, Squadron Leader Spencer Ritchie Peacock-Edwards, one of ‘the Few’.
The talk completed an impressive autumn series of top-quality speakers who entertained audiences with presentations on Battle of Britain-themed topics throughout October.
The talks were all free to attend, with donations welcome and visitors encouraged to support the charity by spending money in the shop and café.
The first of our autumn speakers was Geoff Piper, who served for 33 years in the RAF Volunteer Reserve (training branch) and presenting an illustrated talk on the amazing story of world war two Hurricane pilot Jim Hayter DFC*.
Geoff was followed by Dr Helen Doe, who told the incredible story of her father, Wing Commander Bob Doe DSO DFC*, celebrated as one of the highest scoring Aces in the Battle of Britain, and by Adrian Phillips, whose presentation on “Winston's Bandits: Churchill's maverick friends" was much enjoyed.
Our next event will be our Remembrance Day service which will take place at 11am on Tuesday, 11 November. Please arrive ten minutes or so before the short service begins. It will be followed by wreath laying.
