Memorial stars in travel blog

Journalist Chris Lawson has put the Memorial centre stage in the impressive Travel with Spirit blog.

His piece, entitled The Silence After the Roar, paints a vivid picture of the Memorial as a unique place of contemplation.

He points out: "Visiting in the 85th anniversary year adds a poignant weight. Time has thinned the ranks of living veterans, but their stories, their courage and their loss still hang in the air here. As you stand on that cliff edge, the Channel gleaming below, it’s easy to imagine the silver wings banking and turning far above, sunlight flashing off their fuselages.

"Capel-le-Ferne is not just a memorial; it is a place where the landscape and the memory are inseparable. The wind off the sea whispers through the grass, and the sky feels impossibly wide, a reminder that the battle for Britain’s future was fought not on soil, but in the shifting currents of cloud and air.

"If you come here, don’t rush. Walk the full curve of the site, linger with the airman’s gaze, and let your eyes follow the horizon until the line between present and past blurs. This is more than history. This is where the sky itself remembers."
