This April, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and partners mark 90 years since the first flight of the iconic Supermarine Spitfire. On Tuesday 7 April, two-seat Spitfire BS410, painted in the colours of the original K5054 prototype, will circumnavigate Great Britain in a series of historic flights, flying past key landmarks - including the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne.
Visitors at the Memorial may see the Spitfire in formation with RAF aircraft, which could include Battle of Britain Memorial Flight aircraft, a Eurofighter Typhoon, a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, BAE Systems Hawk T1s from the Red Arrows, a Boeing CH-47 Chinook or a Phenom multi-engine trainer.
The formation will pass stunning locations along the south coast, including Beachy Head, The Needles and the Battle of Britain Memorial, creating a spectacular tribute to ‘the Few’ and nine decades of Spitfire history.
The Memorial will be open to visitors during the flypast, with the shop, Cockpit Café and Scramble Experience all operating. Entry to the Memorial is as usual, with normal admission and parking charges applied. If the car park reaches capacity, the gates will be closed.
Please note that we are not the organisers of this flypast and do not have control over the flight or its exact timings. For full details, including schedules and enquiries, please contact the organisers directly at Spitfires.com.
(Please note all flypasts are subject to weather conditions and aircraft serviceability. Timings to be confirmed nearer the time)
