Happy 104th Birthday, Group Captain!

Malcolm

Group Captain John Hemingway, thought to be the last of 'the Few', celebrates his 104th birthday today.

Now living in a care home in Dublin, the Irish-born airman flew Hurricanes with No 85 Squadron during the Battle of Britain and went on to command No 43 Squadron in Italy at the end of the war.

He was one of about 10 Irish nationals to take part in the Battle of Britain, despite the fact that Ireland was officially neutral in the Second World War.

Trustees, staff, volunteers and supporters of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust wish Gp Capt Hemingway a very happy birthday.
