Welcome Donation from Sponsored Runners

Sponsored runners who covered an impressive 80-plus miles to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain last year have handed over very welcome donations to two Kent charities.

Author and top Battle of Britain Memorial Trust supporter Jonny Cracknell was joined by Chris Marsh and Chris Scott and supported by Driver Iain Willis on their run from the headquarters of the Aircraft Restoration Company in Duxford to the Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, via more than a dozen stops at places with RAF or Battle of Britain links.

The team has now donated around £3,750 to both the Memorial Trust and the Kent Battle of Britain Museum Trust at nearby Hawkinge, one of the other Battle-themed stops on their route.

The generous donation, warmly welcomed by both charities, well exceeded the runners’ initial aim of raising £1 for each of the nearly 3,000 members of the Few who took part in the aerial conflict in 1940.

With plans for an official handover of the money raised put on hold by the ongoing lockdown, Johnny and the team decided to transfer the cash without delay so that it could be put to good use by both causes
