Season ends on high note

Updated: Jun 2

This autumn’s exciting season of Sunday afternoon talks ended on a high note with a fascinating presentation by Air Marshal G.A. ‘Black’ Robertson CBE.

The Air Marshal’s enthralling talk, entitled “Flying Through the Ranks – Phew, That Was Close!” was enjoyed by an appreciative audience in the Geoffrey Page Centre in The Wing.

‘Black’ Robertson’s talk included enthralling stories from the Cold War, the Falklands and Kosovo, and covered the experiences of both aircrew and groundcrew.

He explained how his experiences in the air, the people he worked with, the places he served and the jobs he did taught him lessons for life, offering a unique perspective not just on the RAF’s development but on the type of characters who formed its backbone.

While our spring talks are now over, there is still plenty to look forward to at the Memorial this summer. Our next event is sure to go with a swing, when the Hythe/Shepway U3a Swing Band entertains visitors on Sunday 13 July.

The band will set up just outside the entrance to The Wing, on the Memorial side and will provide a free concert throughout the afternoon. While the music is free, please support the charity by donating, visiting the shop or enjoying the treats on offer in the café.

What a fantastic way to conclude the autumn talks! Air Marshal Robertson's insights sound incredibly engaging. It's reminiscent of discovering a rare creature in the Pokerogue Dex , each story revealing a new facet. The dedication and camaraderie he described mirrors the strategic depth found in Pokerogue . Looking forward to the summer events, especially the swing band! Hopefully, they'll strike a chord like finding a perfect Pokerogue team.

Malcolm's recap of the season's end highlights a talk that sounds as thrilling as navigating treacherous slopes in Snow Rider 3D. Air Marshal 'Black' Robertson's tales of daring flights and close calls, spanning the Cold War to Kosovo, probably left the audience breathless. His insights into the RAF's development sound just as engaging as mastering a difficult level in the game.
