Fantastic news from the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, where the Memorial was last night named as one of the top visitor attractions in the whole of the country.
Treasurer Sam Pilcher was at a glittering ceremony in Liverpool to collect our bronze award in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category.
"We also received a special extra mention from the host Alex Polizzi, who said it was a great honour to have the Memorial represented at the awards ceremony, given it was the eve of D-Day," Sam added.
The well-deserved award reflects the hard work and dedication of the staff, trustees and volunteers who look after the Memorial, which was scored during an unannounced visit as well as being judged on an initial written submission.
The clifftop tribute to the Few was put through to the national finals after winning the gold award in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category of the Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2023-24, an award that rated us the top attraction in the whole of the south of the country.
“This is a huge boost for everyone connected with the Memorial,” commented chairman Richard Hunting CBE. “Winning the regional ward was amazing, and to be named in the top three tourist attractions in the whole of the country really does put the cherry on the cake.
"It is a tribute to the hard work and enthusiasm of everyone involved, including our visitors, who do so much to support the Memorial and what it stands for. We hope winning this award will encourage many more people to come to Capel-le-Ferne and see this remarkable tribute to the men who won the Battle of Britain."
