Modeller Dom Pound, who created the superbly detailed1/24 scale model of Wing Commander Geoffrey Page’s No 56 Squadron Hurricane unveiled at July’s Memorial Day, is continuing his ambitious project.
Dom is creating more than 100 hyper-realistic models that will be given to 48 museums around the country in memory of more than 150 of ‘the Few’, the men of the Royal Air Force who took part in the Battle of Britain in 1940.
The model presented to the Trust’s honorary secretary Patrick Tootal (centre of pic below) and memorial manager Jules Gomez, is of the Hurricane in which then-Pilot Officer Page was shot down 85 years ago. In later life, Wing Cdr Page was the driving force behind the campaign to create a permanent tribute to his RAF colleagues here at Capel-le-Ferne.
In an update to his ‘labour of love’, which is expected to take around ten years to complete, he said: “Summer has seen the project reach some major milestones. Twenty-seven aircraft have now been completed, and the Luftwaffe element started.
“Thirteen models are now on show at various sites as well as the Memorial, including Exmouth, Lashenden and the Hornchurch Heritage Museum. Two more will go on display this week.”
