A captivated audience heard Darling Buds of May star Tyler Butterworth tell the fascinating story of the lives of his showbiz parents in the impressive surroundings of the RAF Club in London's Piccadilly.
The son of Carry on… star Peter Butterworth and perhaps the country's best-known female impressionist Janet Brown, Tyler delivered an engaging talk before chatting with guest at the supper which followed.
The evening, which was held to raise funds for the Trust, a charity that receives no government or local government cash help, revealed some fascinating stories about the private lives of two very public people.
Peter Butterworth spent part of the second world war as a POW in Stalag Luft III and was involved in a number of escape attempts. Tyler explained how in later life his father was traumatised when a Spitfire flew towards him, having witnessed a 'friendly fire' incident during the war.
The evening included video footage of his father, a regular member of the renowned “Carry On” cast, and his mother, at one time the country’s leading female impressionist, best known for impersonating Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, with whom she became friends.
