Try some ration book cookery

Looking for something to do with the youngsters during lockdown? With some people comparing the current challenge to a wartime experience, we’ve turned to a book of recipes published during the Second World War, when basic foods like tea, sugar, margarine, eggs, bacon and cheese were rationed.

We haven’t faced quite the same problem, and supermarkets are generally now well stocked, but being confined to our homes has definitely seen us raiding our larders for overlooked ingredients.

With this in mind, we’ve looked up three great family recipes from our Wartime Cookery Book, just one of many souvenir and gift ideas current available via our online shop. All proceeds go to support the Memorial Trust and its great work.
