Working closely with university students

The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust is continuing its strong links with Canterbury Christchurch University by again offering a week-long placement at the Memorial.

Building on the success of three previous placements, the Trust will be inviting one student to find out how the site works and experience the way the new library and archive operates within the refurbished former visitor building, Hunting Lodge.

The library was established in the revamped Hunting Lodge in 2018 and continues to expand with the help of our placement students. The archive is steadily being catalogued, with some items also being photographed.

As the first stage in selecting a student for the 2020 placement, Trustees Barry Duffield and Andrew Simpson attended a workshop at the university at which the students could talk with all the organisations offering placements.

The next stages will be for the students to bid for the placement, with shortlisted students being interviewed and an offer made to the chosen candidate.

The process of gaining the placement and the placement itself are designed to give students the opportunity to experience some of the challenges they may face after their courses have been completed. The Trust is pleased to again be working alongside Canterbury Christchurch University.
