Try our Battle of Britain ration book recipe

Looking for something to do with the youngsters during lockdown? With some people comparing the current challenge to a wartime experience, we’ve been checking out a book of recipes published during the Second World War, when basic foods like tea, sugar, margarine, eggs, bacon and cheese were rationed.

We haven’t faced quite the same problem, and supermarkets are generally now well stocked, but being confined to our homes has definitely seen us raiding our larders for overlooked ingredients.

With this in mind, the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust thought it would be great to bring you three wartime family recipes from our Wartime Cookery Book, just one of many souvenir and gift ideas current available via our online shop. All proceeds go to support the Memorial Trust and its great work.

Let us know what you think – and don’t forget to share and tag us on social media in your culinary creation photos!

If you’ve enjoyed these recipes, there are plenty more to try in the book, available to purchase in our online shop here.

Hello. I have been asked to talk at our local college to Year 13 about how we got our food. What we ate and other details about our small agricultural town from 1879 through to when we got the 2 supermarkets..
    Probably about 1980’s.
I would like to mention your Wartime recipe book.
