The Trust is heading to London this weekend to spread the word about the attractions on offer here at the Battle of Britain Memorial.
We are joining other members of ATAK, the Association of Tourist Attractions in Kent, to sell our wares at Excursions, the UK’s premier group travel trade show.
With no public funding of any kind – and no admission charge to the site itself – the Trust relies on visitors spending money in the shop, cafe and Scramble Experience in order to meet running costs of £150,000 a year. That’s no easy feat, and so the more visitors we can attract, the better.
Excursions, now in its 44th year and organised by Tourism South East, is recognised as the number one show for venues looking to attract group visitors.
This year some 1,200 group organisers, coach and tour operators are expected to visit the show, where 300 attractions and other interested parties, including the Trust, will be looking for new business.
We already welcome an increasing number of coach visitors to the site, and we offer guided tours to pre-booked parties, so we are hoping that the event at Alexandra Palace on Saturday will give us the opportunity to further boost awareness of this tribute to the men who fought the Battle of Britain.
