Join us at our D-Day 75th Anniversary event on Sunday 9 June, when we will be welcoming some great musicians and some fabulous cars to a very special free event here at the site .
The Memorial site at Capel-le-Ferne will be welcoming the singers of the Folkestone Rock Choir and the talented young musicians of the Kent Youth Jazz Orchestra (KYJO) for two hours of great music, starting at 1pm.
We will also be welcoming the South Eastern Section of the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club, who will be visiting the site to enjoy a picnic and show off their highly polished, lovingly cared-for machines against the impressive backdrop of The Wing and The Memorial.
Last year’s visit by the Rolls-Royce owners saw an impressive variety of these iconic vehicles arrive at the site, from carefully restored vintage cars through to modern day head-turners.
Their proud owners – and other visitors – will this year be serenaded by some great music by KYJO and by the Folkestone Rock Choir, set up in 2011 as part of the national network of rock choirs.
The group meets at Folkestone School For Girls every Tuesday evening at 8pm to sing feel-good, uplifting rock and pop songs. There are no auditions, and choir members don’t have to be able to read music – just love singing.
Both groups are well respected and promise to provide great entertainment to mark the anniversary of D-Day on 6 June 1944. While the Folkestone Rock Choir is getting ready for its first visit to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, KYJO will be playing with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra at the Deal Festival on 29 June.
All the usual attractions of the Battle of Britain Memorial, including The Scramble Experience and The Cockpit Café in The Wing, will be open as usual and admission to the event is free. There is a small charge for parking.
