The Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne takes centre stage in a new TV programme about the future of Europe – but viewers need to be able to understand Danish to appreciate the finer points.
The footage was shot in December when the Memorial played host to Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Secretary General of NATO and a former Danish Prime Minister, who was on the final leg of a journey through six European countries.
Anders, accompanied on his trip by Danish wine enthusiast Morten Brink Iwersen, visited the Memorial to explain its significance to Danish TV viewers for one episode of a six-part series.
The Danish Broadcasting Corporation series, called To Europe, shows the two presenters discussing the future of the continent while visiting sites of historic interest alongside some of Europe’s great wine districts.
In programme six, following episodes filmed in Germany, Hungary, Italy, France and Spain, Anders tells Morten aand the Danish viewers about the significance of the National Memorial to the Few and its role in highlighting the importance of the Battle of Britain in shaping Europe.
The film can be seen here; the Memorial footage begins 11 minutes 22 seconds into the programme, but sadly there are no subtitles…
