Talented amateur photographers won great prizes in the Twitter competition organised as part of this year’s Memorial Day commemorations.
As part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the Trust’s mission to ‘remember the Few’, we set up a fun photo competition and asked people to Tweet their images to #BoBMemday17.
The competition sparked huge interest, with many of the images being shown on the big screen during the event on Sunday 9 July, and we have now chosen the lucky winners. Both will receive free family entry to The Scramble Experience and two adult tickets to the Combined Ops 2017 show at Headcorn Aerodrome, kindly donated by our friends at Headcorn Special Events.
The winners were Tony Lavender, from Whitstable, who photographed his granddaughter Angelique against the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, and Martin Isted, from Sevenoaks, whose shot showed his son with Bob, the Memorial’s resident dog.
A delighted Tony commented: “I have visited your Memorial on numerous occasions and Angelique (7) always asks to return and asks your staff and myself so many questions as she can understand the sacrifices made. I was a serviceman for 24 years and I am still humbled at each visit.”
Martin captioned the photograph of his ATC Cadet son simply: “Granddad would have been very proud; well done all. Great parade in the heat.”
