Visitors planning to combine a visit to the Battle of Britain Memorial here at Capel-le-Ferne with a look around the amazing collection of artefacts housed at the Kent Battle of Britain Museum at nearby Hawkinge need to get their skates on.
The museum, which boasts “the oldest-established and largest collection of Battle of Britain artefacts on show in the country”, is privately run by enthusiasts and volunteers and closes for the winter to allow vital maintenance work on its many and varied items to be carried out.
It means the last chance to combine a visit to these two important, but very different, Battle of Britain sites is Sunday 5 November. The museum, which also closes on Mondays, reopens in April.
Here at the Battle of Britain Memorial our hard-working staff and fantastic volunteers help us stay open throughout the year, except for a short break at Christmas. More volunteers are always needed, though – just have a chat to someone the next time you visit.
