Kent’s tourism chief visits the Memorial

The Trust welcomed a high profile visitor with a unique insight into tourism to the Memorial this week.

Deirdre Wells OBE, Chief Executive of destination management organisation Visit Kent and its trading company Go to Places, was given a tour of the Memorial by site manager Jules Gomez (right in the picture), secretary Patrick Tootal OBE (left) and trustee Andy Simpson.

The visit gave the Trust a chance to highlight the Memorial’s unique offer as a place of remembrance combined with an exciting day out, and to discuss joint ventures with Visit Kent aimed at increasing the number of visitors. Deirdre has a wealth of experience in promoting tourism venues which she was happy to share with the Trust.

Andy Simpson described it as “a very good visit which was of benefit to us all”, while Deirdre said later: “You should be really proud of the Memorial – it really is an excellent visitor attraction and well deserving of the Hidden Gem Award [it won in 2017]”.
