Join us to remember three of the Few

A short Act of Remembrance will take place at the National Memorial to the Few this Friday (10th Aug) at 11am to commemorate the lives of three recently departed members of the Few.

The Trust has been saddened by the recent deaths of Wing Cdr Tom Neil DFC*, AFC, who flew Hurricanes with No 249 Squadron and is credited with destroying more than 17 enemy aircraft, and of Squadron Leader Geoff Wellum DFC, who painted a memorable picture of life in the Battle of Britain in his much-acclaimed book First Light.

While Sqn Ldr Wellum was one of the youngest of the remaining members of the Few to pass away, the most recent death was of Flight Lieutenant Ronald Mackay, who flew Spitfires with No 234 Squadron during the Battle and died a few days ago at the age of 101.

The lives of all three men will be remembered during the short service, which will last for about 15 minutes. Members of the public are very welcome to join and share their respects.

I will attend to honour and pay my respects to these great humble men of our time… It’s the very least i can do… All true heroes indeed.
