A talk on a French hero of the Battle of Britain by broadcaster Jan Leeming will launch a new series of lectures being organised in 2016 at the National Memorial to the Few.
Trustee Andy Simpson has pulled together an array of personalities and experts to deliver a series of talks that will take advantage of the facilities at the new Wing building – and long-time supporter of the Memorial Jan has agreed to be the first.
On Saturday 20 February at 2pm, the former TV newsreader will present a lecture entitled ‘Searching for René’ which will provide a fascinating account of the life of Squadron Leader René Mouchotte, DFC, Croix de Guerre.
After reading diaries written by René during his time with the RAF and later published first in French and subsequently in English, Jan set out on a ‘voyage of discovery’.
Continuing her research for several years, Jan met and interviewed members of his family, obtained his Battle of Britain medals and finally persuaded BBC SE to make a documentary about the fascinating story of René Mouchotte.
Jan will illustrate her talk with numerous photos and a screening of ‘Searching for René’.
Places at this event are strictly limited to 50. For more information and full pricing details, please click here.
