Trustee Andrew Simpson was bowled over by a chance to take time away from Trust duties and attend a cricket match between the Royal Household XI and the ‘St Peters (Vatican) XI at the Household Ground at Windsor.
Andrew was the guest of another Trustee, Deborah Burns, wife of the late Flt Lt Owen Burns, one of the Few. For Deborah, an umpire with the Household Cricket Club, it was a working afternoon as she officiated in the T20 match that was won by the Vatican XI with an over to spare.
For Andrew, whose duties as a Trustee focus on the day-to-day running of the busy Memorial site and The Wing, it was a chance to take time out and enjoy the cricket and the company in the pleasant weather and unique surroundings.
Later in the day the cricketers and their guests were joined by delegates from The Association of Former European Air Chiefs, who had enjoyed a cruise on the River Thames. This allowed the two Trustees to chat with the President of the Trust, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton GCB and Lady Dalton, and former President, now Life President, Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Graydon GCB CBE and Lady Graydon.
