Cadet’s reminder of a great day

A young cadet who played an important part in this July’s Memorial Day at Capel-le-Ferne has been presented with a framed photograph to remind her of her special day.

Group Captain Patrick Tootal DL RAF, secretary of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust, presented the photograph to 14 year-old Cadet Kalina Maggs, who carried the Polish Airmen’s Association Standard at this year’s Parade and Service of Commemoration.

Kalina, a member of 99 Squadron (Folkestone) Air Training Corps, has a Polish mother and family connections in the country, which made her the ideal choice to carry the standard, a task she performed very well.

The picture shows Kalina with her younger sister Tatjana, who is also a Cadet, Group Captain Tootal and Flight Lieutenant Mike Essex, Officer Commanding 99 Squadron Folkestone. The Trust is grateful for the support of youngsters from the ATC who join the Trust on Memorial Day each year, both on parade and carrying out a variety of roles.
