Here’s some news to brighten up a potentially dull and wet half term – a ‘buy one, get one free’ deal on admission to The Scramble Experience in The Wing!
With families keen to find ways of entertaining children after the summer lockdown, the Trust has decided to make it cheaper to visit its fantastic, hands-on introduction to the Battle of Britain.
The Scramble Experience brings to life the sacrifices and bravery of the Few in 1940, using state-of-the-art technology to tell the story of how the RAF stopped the Luftwaffe and prevented an invasion of this country.
From Friday 23 October through to the following Sunday, 1 November, our “buy one, get one free deal” can halve the cost of a visit – but remember that we are currently only open from Friday through to Monday each week.
We have taken great care to make sure The Wing, including The Scramble Experience, is safe to visit, with Covid-19 precautions in place throughout The Wing. Visitors are expected to comply with the law by wearing a face covering inside the buildling, except when eating and drinking (and enjoying the views!) in the first-floor Cockpit Cafe.
The highlight of any visit to The Scramble Experience is our unique film depicting a ‘scramble’ on a summer’s day in 1940 and the impact it has on two RAF Hurricane pilots. The short film is so moving that it reduced one member of the Few to tears when he first saw it.
But there is much more besides, with hands-on fun for younger people and a wealth of in-depth information for adults and those with a deeper interest in the Battle that helped change history. The whole family, meanwhile, will have fun competing to see who can shoot down the most enemy aircraft from our mock-up Hurricane cockpit.
A large bank of over-sized touchscreen displays allows access to a huge amount of in-depth information about the battle, from comtemporary photographs and film and audio clips to more recent interviews with the Few – all available with the swipe of a finger and offering detailed information on, and insight into, the Battle.
The Scramble Experience is well worth a visit at any time – and this half term it’s even better value. Visit between Friday and Monday (inclusive) to take advantage of this offer. You can even reserve your slot by booking a 50-minute visit starting on the hour (allowing our team to sanitise the Experience between visits) – just email email@example.com
There is no need to book to visit the rest of the site, including the shop and cafe in The Wing. The external features of the site, including the National Memorial to the Few, our replica aircraft and the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, are always open to visitors on foot via the pedestrian gate, while The Wing and car park are open from 10am to 5pm Friday to Monday.
From 1 November the site will be open five days a week, from Thursday through to Monday, from 10am to 4pm. It will close for stocktaking from 7 December until 7 January.
