Our exciting autumn talks season begins on Sunday 22 September with a talk on Exercise Magersfontein by Commander David Houston, who served in the South African Navy.
Exercise Magersfontein was held in 1988 to demonstrate the South African Navy’s ability to carry out long-range and extended operations. It was also the first opportunity for the South African Navy and Army’s to demonstration their ability to carry out an amphibious landing, but as Cdr Houston, Operations Officer for the Amphibious Task Force Commander at the time, will explain, not everything went to plan.
The following Sunday, 29 September, Jim Nicolson will give a unique insight into the life of his uncle, James Nicolson, the only Fighter Command pilot to have been awarded the Victoria Cross. His fascinating talk is entitled James Nicolson VC DFC.
All the talks take place in the Geoffrey Page Centre at 2.30pm and booking is essential as space is limited. Ring 01303 249292 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
