Lady Aitken, a Trustee of the Battle of Britain Memorial Trust and widow of Group Captain Sir Max Aitken, opens the Beaverbrook Memorial Wall in July 1999. The Wall is dedicated to Group Captain Sir Max Aitken DSO, DFC, AE who commanded 601 Squadron during the Battle.

The wall marks the entrance to the Memorial and is inscribed with Churchill’s immortal words, “Never in the filed of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so Few”
